Mathematics

The Mathematics program at Great Oaks Charter School is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematical concepts that build upon the elementary math common core state standards. The program aims to equip students with advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Its structure fosters a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts, focusing significantly on their practical applications. The curriculum imparts real-world math problems and applications, enhancing students' grasp of math concepts and principles. The program's primary focus is to strengthen students' understanding of mathematical concepts, particularly algebra and geometry, to ensure their success in more advanced math courses.

Science

The Science program at Great Oaks Charter School incorporates the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as a fundamental aspect of its curriculum. The curriculum addresses embedded science practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas. The program aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and practices required to succeed in science and engineering. The NGSS framework provides a set of performance expectations for students at each grade level to prepare them for college and career readiness.

English Language Arts

Great Oaks Middle School's English Language Arts program is dedicated to equipping our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in high school and beyond. Our curriculum is designed to provide an authentic and diverse learning experience. Students develop critical thinking, comprehension, and writing skills by analyzing literary and informational texts. Additionally, students expand their content knowledge by exploring a wide range of diverse and relevant subject matter. Our middle school students participate in four units of study centered around narrative, informational, argumentative, and research topics.

Social Studies

Great Oaks Middle School's Social Studies program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become well-informed citizens in their local, national, and global communities. The curriculum places equal emphasis on both content knowledge and skill development. Students are taught essential skills such as formulating research questions, planning inquiries, evaluating sources, effectively communicating their arguments, and making informed decisions. Additionally, they explore topics such as civic engagement, physical and human geography, significant historical figures and events, and the impact of economics on our daily lives. These concepts are taught using a variety of instructional strategies, including inquiry-based learning and multi-intelligence methods.
